Orthopaedic
Surgeons Required - Bali Volunteers are required to act as educators and supervisors for the Orthopaedic Programme in Bali, which is under the direction of the Indonesian College of Orthopaedic Surgeons/Indonesian Orthopaedic Association. The volunteers are required to spend 1 week in Bali (volunteers can elect the time in their nominated month). The Bali Orthopaedic Programme started in January 2005. There are presently 4 trainees in the Orthopaedic Department at Sanglah Hospital (the main university hospital in Bali). The Orthopaedic Department consists of 5 orthopaedic surgeons and the Director of Training is Dr Putu Astawa. The preferred travelling time is Saturday morning and arriving Saturday afternoon. The volunteer will be collected by one of the trainees and taken to the Sanur Paradise Hotel (the old Radisson Hotel). The hotel is a 4½ star hotel, which has very special rates. The booking will be arranged by Dr Astawa and the cost of the accommodation for one week, including breakfast, is in the vicinity of $500 (to be paid by the volunteer). The preferred return time to Australia is Saturday evening arriving in Australia on Sunday morning. During the week in Bali, the volunteer will act as an educator and will not be required to performed procedures but may be required to be involved in certain procedures with the trainees and/or consultants staff of the Sanglah Hospital. During the stay of the volunteer, 4 topics will be discussed (as nominated by the volunteer a few weeks prior to their arrival in Bali). These topics will be forwarded to the trainees to prepare prior to the arrival of the volunteer. Orthopaedic Outreach will pay an honorarium of $1500 to the volunteer for expenses during that week. It is expected that the volunteer will organise their own travelling which would be in the vicinity of $1000 return airfare to Denpasar. Interested
volunteers are required to contact Bev Hughes Alternatively,
